Verbena bonariensis
Another must-have, I just can't get enough of her in my garden.
She delicately meanders her way through the roses and other shrubs and just flowers and flowers and flowers some more. All the way from July through to November.
She self-seeds, but is never invasive. She doesn't require any maintenance, looks beautiful in bouquets and butterflies just love her (the flowers are rich in nectar).
Height: 120cm (47")
Hardiness: Yes, as long the winters aren't too cold. She self-seeds wonderfully, though.
Where: Full sun, partial shade.
When: February to April inside.
Spacing: 30cm (12")
Harvesting/Flowering: June until the first frost.
Tip: These plants are only hardy to -5°C (23°F), which is why it's a good idea to keep them protected during the winter by covering them with leaf mulch or compost.
A paradise for insects
