Valeriana officinalis, open pollinated
Wild Flower.
Apart from being a wonderful medicinal plant (one of the oldest ever), medicinal valerian is also impressive in flower beds. It flowers pink and white in June and August.
The beautiful perennial is a marsh and wetland plant, but even drier garden soils do not bother it in the short term. It appreciates extra watering, though.
Uncomplicated and easy to care for.
Strong and pleasant fragrance. Promotes sleep and calms. Attracts cats.
Prune in early spring. Sowing in a large pot is also possible.
Height: up to 150cm (59")
Hardiness: Yes
Where: Prefers full sun, but also does well in sundry places.
When: March to May outside. Valerian is a light germinator, push seeds into soil lightly.
Spacing: 80cm (32")
Harvesting/Flowering: June to August
A paradise for insects
By the way: these seeds are packaged in grass paper
Grass paper is an environmentally-friendly and sustainable form of packaging. It is made from grass, a rapidly regenerating raw material, which can be processed without using chemicals, which means significantly less water and energy are required to produce it.
